Programs run Monday through Friday; mornings (9 a.m. to 12p.m.), afternoons (1a.m. to 4 p.m.) or all day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Supervised Lunch Program available for our younger sailors. If sailors are registered in the afternoon tennis program at the Tennis Club, this includes a “walk up” to the tennis club!




C.Y.A. CANSail Programs - July & August


Young Salts

  • An introductory sailing program
  • For sailors minimum 7 years old
  • Covers Sail Canada’s Wet Feet program content
  • Offered mornings (9AM- 12PM) or afternoons (1PM-4PM) or full day


CANSail 1

  • Introduces sailors to the basic concepts and skills set needed to sail a boat
  • For sailors minimum 8 years old
  • Offered mornings (9AM- 12PM) or afternoons (1PM-4PM) or full day


CANSail 2

  • For sailors who have completed CANSail 1
  • Upon completion, sailors should feel comfortable with boat rigging, control, knots and boat parts
  • Offered mornings (9AM- 12PM) or afternoons (1PM-4PM) or full day


CANSail 3

  • An intermediate course with a focus on directional changes, upwind & downwind sailing
  • Introduction to advanced sailing skills such as trapeze
  • Offered mornings (9AM- 12PM) or afternoons (1PM-4PM) or full day but ALL sailors attend full day on Wednesday


CANSail 4

  • An advanced sailing course that focuses on perfecting skills form earlier levels
  • Introduction to advanced sailing skills such as spinnaker
  • Basic racing rules and skills are introduced at this level
  • Participation in local regattas is available
  • Offered full day (9AM-4PM)


CANSail 5

  • An advanced sailing course with a focus on speed
  • Introduces sailors and parents to competitive sailing at a local level (attendance at regattas is encouraged)
  • Focus on racing tactics and skills
  • Offered full day (9AM-4PM)


CANSail 6

  • This level focuses on competition and is for sailors interested in taking their competitive sailing to a provincial level
  • Sailors will build on advanced racing skills from CANSail 5
  • Attendance at regattas is encouraged
  • Offered full day (9AM-4PM)
  • LBSC - teen sailing


Teen Sailing

  • For sailors 13 and older who are either new to sailing, or simply want to sail for fun with friends
  • Testing can be provided for CANSail 1&2 levels upon request. Offered mornings (9AM- 12PM) or afternoons (1PM-4PM) or full day

Program participant requirements:


  • Minimum age of 8 as of December 31st for CANSail Programs (Age 7 for Young Salts)
  • We welcome members and non-members to register for our Junior Sailing programs.
  • Programs are offered on a weekly basis for 8 weeks
  • Classes fill quickly and requests are prioritized based on the date the completed application, a signed release and payment are received.
  • Please bring your own Government approved life jacket, towel and change of clothes. Footwear must be worn at all times.
  • Swimming tests will be given on the first day of lessons – sailors must be able to swim 50 yards and tread water or float for five minutes
  • If space is available, house guests of sailing membership families are welcome to participate
