Commodore’s Message, Spring 2020

Sean Gilday, LBSC Commodore 2020

Welcome to the 2020 Sailing Season. As I write this message, the world is struggling with a serious Pandemic and we’re all trying figure out how we will get back to some form of normalcy. As the new Commodore for LBSC, my first thought goes out to our membership and the hope that everyone in our sailing and Lake of Bays community stays healthy. The LBSC Board is staying on top of all Ontario Government, Sail Canada, and Sail Ontario communications with respect to operational directives for programs like ours. We appreciate the challenges that come with the uncertainty of knowing how the summer will play out. We are monitoring the risk landscape closely for our sailors and staff and, of course, their health and safety is our paramount concern and priority. We are examining and assessing various scenarios of how to run the program in ways that accommodate the safety issues in the event that the government determines that the program can proceed.

In the meantime, and in order to be ready for the summer, we have all our summer staff on standby waiting and poised to get the club and fleet prepped for the summer. We are delighted to report that Jack Shields is our new Head Instructor and he will be working with David Woodside, our Junior Program Director, to implement a safe, fun, and healthy program this summer. No matter what happens with the summer we have a legacy of great past summers to remember and the knowledge that we will have more amazing summers to come.

We will be sharing more up to date information for our summer on the LBSC website as we get those details.

Stay Healthy and please join me in thanking all the Healthcare Workers that are working hard in a difficult environment!
